PLACES WORTH VISITING & ACTIVITIES

CITY CENTER

Heraklion is the capital of Crete. In the city center, just 20 minutes (by car) from Villa Octo, you'll find shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas and lots of other places worth visiting. Enjoy your walk in the old town area, or taste delicious traditional recipes in one of the taverns. Visit museums, galleries and important churches such as the Saint Minas Cathedral. From early morning to late night, Heraklion can surely offer you all kind of entertainment and cultural experiences.

RETHYMNON

Rethymnon city in located in the west part of Crete, very close to Agia Pelagia and Villa Octo. Start your day with a walk in the old, Venetian town, famous for its alleys and small cafes and taverns. Swim in the central, sandy beach of the city and later, as the sun sets, get prepared for the most romantic walk in the old, Venetian port. In Rethymnon, you’ll find shops, restaurants, cafes, museums.

AGIOS NIKOLAOS

Agios Nikolaos is a small, traditional city, located in the eastern Crete. Enjoy a walk at the famous Voulismeni Lake in the center of the city, with lots of cafes and small shops for your souvenirs. Swim in the main beach of the city in Kitroplatia area, or drive a bit more and enjoy your swim in the other clear, crystal beach of the area, such as Plaka beach in Elounda.

LASITHI PLATEAU

In Lasithi plateau you will definitely experience the Cretan way of life! Is the ideal destination for mountain lovers. Use your car of bicycle to discover all the small, traditional villages in the area, and be sure to taste Cretan diet dishes. Feel peaceful and unwind, as you enjoy views that harmoniously blend stone, trees, mountains, small houses and sea view from above.

ARCHANES TRADITIONAL VILAGE

Archanes traditional village is located near to Heraklion city, and very close to the Antiquities of Minoan Palace of Knossos. Recently the village was restored and beautified, and the result is remarkable. In the village you can find stone paths with little shops to buy your souvenirs, Cretan taverns to taste traditional recipes, cafes for refreshing juices and Greek coffee, and beautiful nearby places to visit and enjoy nature and breathtaking views.

CRETAQUARIOUM

The Aquarium of Crete is the fist large aquarium of Greece and one of the largest and most modern ones in Europe. Sixty tanks and more than 2000 creatures of the Mediterranean Sea bed await to be explored by visiting its top-of-the-notch facilities that represent underwater sceneries of Crete and the Mediterranean basin.
